President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, a position previously held by Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the official letter during Tuesday’s plenary session, detailing the qualifications of the 50-year-old economist and public policy expert.
Before this nomination, Oyedele served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he was responsible for overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.
The nominee boasts an extensive academic and professional background, having earned a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
His credentials also include executive education from prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Professionally, Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, eventually rising to the role of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. In addition to his corporate experience, he is a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
In a separate communication, President Tinubu also sought Senate confirmation for Senator Magnus Abe to serve as the chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.
Furthermore, the President nominated Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former Trade Union Congress chairman, and Mr. Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources, as non-executive commissioners.
These nominations have been referred to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further action.
