Michael Aondoakaa, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following a meeting with former Governor Samuel Ortom in Abuja, Aondoakaa announced his departure on his Facebook page on Sunday, March 29, 2026, as he prepares to join the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Benue State governorship.
The former minister expressed his gratitude to the APC for the opportunity to serve but noted that his new path is focused on the future of his home state.
While urging his supporters to stay calm and peaceful, he indicated that a “new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue State in the best interest of our people will be communicated in due course.”
In his formal resignation statement, Aondoakaa wrote, “I wish to formally notify the general public of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective yesterday 28th of March, 2026.”
He explained that the move was not made lightly, stating, “This decision follows careful reflection and wide consultations with my family, political associates, and supporters. While I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of the party at various levels during my membership, prevailing circumstances have made it necessary for me to take this step in the overall interest of my people and democratic values.”
He further extended his thanks to the party structure in his local constituency and beyond: “Finally, I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area, the entire Benue state and beyond for the cooperation and support extended to me over the years. The relationships built and experiences gathered remain invaluable.”
Addressing his political base directly, he added, “At this critical time, I call on all my supporters and associates to remain calm, peaceful, and steadfast. A new direction aimed at salvaging and repositioning Benue State in the best interest of our people will be communicated in due course.”
According to reports by LEADERSHIP, Aondoakaa is not moving alone; legal luminary Sebastine Hon, SAN, is also expected to join the PDP as both APC governorship aspirants look toward the 2027 elections.
