Nasiru Gawuna, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has officially resigned from his post, marking a significant political realignment as activities in Kano State and the national stage intensify.
Gawuna, who previously ran as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano, submitted his formal resignation in a letter dated March 27, 2026.
He explained that the decision was effective immediately and was made to adhere to the recent mandate from President Bola Tinubu.
“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” Gawuna wrote.

Insiders suggest that the former FMBN chairman is preparing to align himself politically with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He is expected to formally announce his transition to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) this Tuesday.
In his resignation letter, Gawuna took a moment to reflect on his time with the current administration, noting that his tenure was both an honor and a privilege.
“I am profoundly grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the confidence reposed in me to serve. It has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and our great country,” he stated.
Regarding his next steps, he adopted a spiritual tone, adding, “I place my future in the hands of Allah (SWT) and seek His divine guidance in all my endeavors.”
To ensure the bank remains stable during this change, Gawuna promised a professional transition. “I remain committed to ensuring a smooth and orderly handover in accordance with all laid-down directives,” he said, confirming he would transfer his duties according to established protocols.
