President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Senator Ibrahim Ida as the new Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
This was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the official announcement, Ida is expected to leverage his significant background in finance and public administration.
The statement noted: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Sen. Dr Ibrahim Ida as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission and nominated seven people to fill vacant commissioner positions at the National Population Commission.”
Highlighting his academic credentials, it added: “Ida holds an MSc in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan and an LLB from the University of Abuja.”
Before his 2017 election to the Senate representing Katsina Central, Ida held positions as the Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State and as a Permanent Secretary within the Federal Civil Service.
In addition to the CAC appointment, the President nominated seven individuals to serve as commissioners for the National Population Commission, pending confirmation by the National Assembly.
The nominees include Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi (Ekiti), Nasiru Mu’azu (Zamfara), Usman Abubakar Tuggar (Bauchi), Dr Isaka Alada Yahaya (Kwara), Prof Sadiq Isah Radda (Katsina), Suleiman Umar (Jigawa), and Hon. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo (Sokoto). Onanuga clarified that these selections are intended to complement the commissioners who have already been sworn into the agency.
In separate developments, Dr. Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State was named Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, while Bala Bello from Taraba State was confirmed as the Special Adviser on Political Economy.
Bello, an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, previously served as a Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria and was the Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank from 2017 to 2022.
The presidency remains optimistic about the impact of these new officials, stating: “President Tinubu strongly believes in the capacities of the appointees to put in their best to further the administration’s commitment to a better lease of life for Nigerians.”
