Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has sparked fresh debate after declaring that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, will not be able to achieve his presidential ambitions at this time.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, Edochie dismissed Obi’s current political maneuvers and his recent involvement in opposition coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections.
Specifically, he described Obi’s reported alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as being “dead on arrival” and a “total waste of time.”
“Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time. It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that,” Edochie wrote.

He further expressed surprise at Obi’s persistence, adding, “I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now.”
Edochie, an outspoken supporter of President Bola Tinubu, argued that Obi’s political influence is often “misunderstood” and suggested that his presence in coalition efforts actually “weakens rather than strengthens” those platforms.
This criticism comes as Peter Obi continues to engage in high-level consultations aimed at building a unified opposition bloc.
During a recent public engagement in Enugu, Obi described the coalition effort as a movement to “rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity and democratic decline.”
Addressing concerns about power struggles within the emerging bloc—specifically regarding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—Obi has remained diplomatic.
During a visit to LEA Primary School in Abuja, he dismissed fears of rivalry, describing Atiku as a “dear elder brother and respected leader” and downplaying suggestions that the former Vice President would “hijack” the ADC structure.
