Latest Cooking Gas Price Across Nigeria – Monday, April 27, 2026

Cooking gas (LPG) prices have reached new highs this morning, with retail rates hitting an average of ₦1,300 per kg in several urban centers.

This surge follows recent adjustments to the Domestic Base Price (DBP) of natural gas and mounting supply constraints at major depots.

Retail Prices by Cylinder Size

  • 5kg Cylinder: ₦7,500 – ₦8,200

  • 6kg Cylinder: ₦9,000 – ₦10,500

  • 12.5kg Cylinder: ₦17,000 – ₦19,500

  • 50kg Cylinder: ₦68,000 – ₦75,000

Regional Price Variations

Prices fluctuate based on proximity to depots and regional transportation costs:

  • Lagos & South-West: ₦1,250 – ₦1,300 per kg (Cheapest due to depot proximity).

  • Abuja & North-Central: ₦1,350 – ₦1,400 per kg.

  • South-East (Enugu/Onitsha): ₦1,380 – ₦1,450 per kg.

  • North-East/Far North: ₦1,450 – ₦1,550 per kg.

Depot & Wholesale Market

  • Lagos Depots (Navgas/Nipco): ₦950 – ₦1,000 per kg.

  • Port Harcourt/Warri Depots: ₦980 – ₦1,020 per kg.

  • Domestic Base Price: As of April 1, 2026, the NMDPRA increased the base price of natural gas to $2.18/MMBTU, which has begun filtering down to retail consumers.

Market Analysis & Trends

  • Supply Constraints: The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) reports that allocations from the Dangote Refinery and NLNG have become less frequent, causing a scarcity that drives up depot prices.

  • Logistics Costs: The recent hike in petrol prices (PMS) has directly increased the cost of transporting gas cylinders from depots to retail plants, a cost now being transferred to households.

  • Global Pressure: International LPG benchmarks have risen due to Middle East tensions, impacting the 40% of Nigeria’s gas supply that is still imported.
