The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has sanctioned the dismissal and subsequent prosecution of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman following the fatal shooting of a suspect in Effurun, Delta State.
This decision comes after a comprehensive review by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), which evaluated the incident and internal disciplinary protocols.
During an emergency press briefing in Abuja, the IGP confirmed that the officer and his team members have been recommended for removal from the Nigeria Police Force.

Following the address, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, issued a statement clarifying that the panel concluded the officer “acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other extant regulations governing the use of firearms.”
The committee’s findings led to the recommendation for the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman and any other personnel found responsible for the event.
The statement further noted that the IGP has endorsed these recommendations and moved them to the Police Service Commission for final ratification, ensuring the actions align with official due process.
