The Federal Government has officially designated Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in celebration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was delivered by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended his congratulations to the Nigerian workforce.
In a formal statement released on April 29, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the tireless efforts and dedication of workers toward the country’s progress.
He emphasized that the labor of Nigerian citizens is fundamental to the nation’s economic health and advancement, encouraging everyone to maintain high standards of patriotism and professional commitment.
The official statement detailed: “The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated workers across the country on this year’s celebration. The Minister commended Nigerian workers for their hard work and dedication to national development. He noted that their efforts are essential for the nation’s growth and prosperity.”
Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo underscored the government’s ongoing mission to enhance the security and welfare of employees while fostering an environment that encourages economic prosperity.
