2027: Edo APC Splits As Okpebholo Allegedly Threatens To Sack Appointees If They Fail To Deliver Candidates ‘Endorsed By Wike’

Edo State is facing renewed political friction following claims from the Edo APC Media Diaspora Group that Governor Monday Okpebholo has threatened to sack his appointees from Edo South.

The group alleges that the Governor warned officials they would lose their positions if they do not support candidates reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in the upcoming APC primaries.

In a statement released on Sunday by General Coordinator Taju Omoruyi, General Secretary Dr. Alasa Braimoh, and other officials, the group accused the Governor of weaponizing government roles to favor aspirants tied to the “PDP Legacy Group” and Nyesom Wike.

They claim Okpebholo explicitly ordered his Edo South appointees to ensure these specific candidates win the primaries, cautioning that failure to do so would result in severe political blowback.

The group characterized these actions as a betrayal of dedicated APC members and an attempt to surrender the party’s influence in Edo South to Wike’s loyalists.

They referenced earlier rumors from the last election suggesting the PDP Legacy Group had a formal agreement with Okpebholo to control 30 percent of his political structure.

Specifically, they alleged that the Governor promised Wike the Edo South senatorial ticket as compensation, with Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama identified as the preferred candidate being imposed on the region.

Furthermore, the Diaspora Group accused the Governor of prioritizing PDP defectors for government appointments while ignoring longtime APC supporters.

The statement noted:“There are allegations that the governor threatened his Edo South appointees with removal from office if they fail to deliver candidates allegedly endorsed by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the forthcoming APC primary elections.”

The group expressed concern over the Governor’s shifting priorities, stating:“These actions have created serious tension in the state for reasons best known to the governor. His loyalty appears to be shifting away from APC members who fought for his victory.”

Warning that any effort to rig the primary process would be met with resistance, the group urged President Bola Tinubu and other APC leaders to step in and protect the integrity of the party’s internal elections.
