Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asserted that President Bola Tinubu is the driving force behind the recent collaboration between opposition figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as they look toward 2027.
Speaking on Channels Television this Wednesday, Momodu suggested that the alliance is a reaction to government pressure rather than a deep-seated partnership.
“Tinubu forced all of them together. And that is why they all moved in one direction. Which would have been beautiful, because it would have been like a two-party race,” Momodu stated.
His remarks follow the Sunday defection of Obi and Kwankwaso from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The duo cited a “toxic political climate” and legal infighting as their reasons for leaving, sparking rumors of a potential joint ticket for the next presidential election.
However, the Ovation International publisher cautioned that the 2023 voter data might not translate to 2027.
“Are you saying that Tinubu will retain all the 8 million plus people that voted for him last time? How are you sure… What is the guarantee that Obi and Kwankwaso are the only people who will retain all those who voted for them last time? The situation has changed,” he argued.
He further speculated that in a truly transparent election, Tinubu “might not even get 3 million votes.”

To illustrate changing voter loyalties, Momodu pointed to the 2023 failure of several G5 governors to win senatorial seats in states like Enugu, Abia, and Benue.
Regarding the future of the ADC, Momodu insisted the party remains on a steady path and will not be intimidated into thinking only one person can secure a victory.
“Those who want to join should join. Those who do not want to join, you cannot succumb to blackmail. That only one man can make us win,” he asserted.
He noted that neither the 2019 Atiku-Obi alliance nor their separate 2023 campaigns managed to defeat the ruling party.
Offering a bit of wisdom from his late mother, Momodu advised political leaders to stay composed: “Stop running from whatever is chasing you, because you might run into what is chasing you.”
He concluded by wishing Peter Obi well in his new party but maintained that no single individual’s popularity should dictate the entire race.
