Kwankwaso Takes Action As NDC Zones 2027 Presidency To South

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State, expressed his support on Saturday for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria.

Speaking to delegates and stakeholders at the party’s national convention in Abuja, he noted that the move demonstrates fairness and adheres to the party’s power-sharing plans.

During his address, Kwankwaso stated, “I support the decision to zone the presidential ticket to Southern so that the region can complete its eight years.”

He added that “This is in line with the zoning process and party agreement.”

He also encouraged supporters to join the party’s membership drive, simply telling them, “Please register now.”

This endorsement followed a motion moved by Afam Victor Ogene, a lawmaker representing Anambra’s Ogbaru Federal Constituency, which officially set the 2027 ticket for a single four-year term in the South.

The National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, explained that the formula balances regional interests, noting that “It will be the turn of the North in 2031.”

The convention also saw the ratification of the National Working Committee and comes as opposition figures work to create a united front against the ruling APC.

Both Peter Obi and Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC during the event. Obi explained that their move was based on the search for a stable platform without “internal crises.”

The new zoning structure is widely seen as a move that could improve the prospects for Peter Obi and other aspirants from the South as the party prepares for its primaries.
