The former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has officially pulled out of the Sokoto South Senatorial contest for the 2027 general elections.
In a strategic move, Tambuwal has handed over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket to the former Commissioner for Finance, Faruk Malami-Yabo.
As the recognized leader of the ADC in the state, Tambuwal reportedly stepped down to protect party unity following high-level consultations and internal disputes regarding candidate choices.
Speaking via a telephone interview on Friday, the ADC State Publicity Secretary, Lamir Aminu, confirmed that the former governor sacrificed his personal ambition to ensure peace and stability within the party ranks.

“Senator Tambuwal decided to relinquish the ticket to promote harmony and strengthen internal democracy in the party,” Aminu stated.
The party spokesperson emphasized that the ADC in Sokoto is focused on empowering the next generation of political figures.
“The ADC leadership in Sokoto is committed to giving younger politicians the opportunity to contest positions,” he said.
“The move by our leader is a reflection of our party’s ideology of grooming young and vibrant leaders.”
Aminu further noted that this shift toward younger representation is a wider trend within the party, as most of the House of Representatives tickets in Sokoto have already been assigned to younger candidates.
This significant withdrawal occurs amidst major political realignments as the ADC prepares for the upcoming general elections, currently scheduled for February 20, 2027.
