United States President, Donald Trump, has claimed that American forces, working alongside the Nigerian military, carried out a joint operation that eliminated a senior ISIS commander in Africa.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump said the operation targeted Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as the “second in command of ISIS globally” and “the most active terrorist in the world.”
According to him, the operation was executed flawlessly under his orders. “Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield,” Trump stated.
Mr. Trump stated that the ISIS leader, a Nigerian national who had previously been designated a global terrorist by US authorities in 2023, had been hiding in Africa and coordinating terror operations targeting both Africans and Americans before he was tracked down through intelligence sources.
“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing,” Trump added.
He declared that al-Minuki “will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans.”
The US president further claimed that the killing of the commander had significantly weakened the terror group, stating, “With his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished.”
Mr. Trump also extended his gratitude to local authorities for their cooperation, saying, “Thank you to the Government of Nigeria for your partnership on this operation.”
