The All Progressives Congress (APC) has performed a swift u-turn on its earlier released list of senatorial aspirants barred from contesting its Senate primaries, completely removing five names, including that of former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, in an updated version made public on Monday.
The freshly updated list, which was signed and released by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, shortly after the initial roll was made public on Monday, effectively reduced the total number of blacklisted aspirants from 47 down to 44.
The ruling party offered absolutely no explanation for why the names were deleted.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby releases an updated list of Senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the Party’s Senate Primary Elections,” Morka stated in the release.
He further added, “The APC urges all stakeholders to uphold transparency, orderliness, and the integrity of the ongoing Primary Election process.”
Murray-Bruce, a high-profile politician who previously represented Bayelsa East in the upper legislative chamber, was easily one of the most notable figures on the initial disqualification list distributed earlier that day.
The party kept tight-lipped on why he was dropped from the updated list, leaving his exact clearance status unexplained.
Alongside the former senator, four other aspirants were completely dropped from the updated list: Chimzobam Kingsley Nnalue (Anambra North), Gyang Yaya Zi San (Plateau North), Napoleon Binkap Bah (Plateau South), and Usman Ephraim Gar (Plateau Central).
Conversely, the party introduced two new names to the roster, including Ibrahim Bala (Nasarawa West), who was officially listed as not cleared, and Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (Nasarawa West), whose status was recorded as a voluntary withdrawal from the race.
Furthermore, the updated documentation revised the administrative status of several political aspirants who had initially been marked as simply “not cleared.”
Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East) and Donald Daunemigita (Bayelsa West) were reclassified under voluntary withdrawals, while Garba Musa Mai Doki (Kebbi South) was newly recorded as having defected from the party.
Meanwhile, Adam Mouktar Mohammed (Jigawa South/West) was listed as having failed to appear before the screening panel.
