Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2027 election in Bauchi State.

Tuggar was among the initial wave of political appointees who complied with President Bola Tinubu’s directive instructing those seeking elective offices in 2027 to resign from the cabinet before March 31, 2027.

Following a delay that stretched on for several hours, the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, retired AIG John Abang, officially declared the result on Saturday morning.

He announced that the winner, Abubakar, secured 57,517 votes, while Tuggar came second with 26,001 votes, and Nura Manu Soro picked up 13,638 votes.

The other aspirants who participated in the primary race included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who polled 13,648 votes; Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes; Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes; and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who finished with 7,181 votes.

The current governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, had previously defeated the 2027 APC gubernatorial candidate back in 2019.

During that encounter, Mohammed ran and won under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Abubakar, who was the sitting incumbent governor at the time under the APC, lost his re-election bid.
