Hours After Rejecting ADC Primary Election Results, Atiku Celebrates Amaechi On Birthday

The political landscape in Nigeria witnessed significant developments within a few hours as the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, extended birthday felicitations to the former Minister of Transportation, Right Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

This came shortly after Amaechi publicly rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election results.

Amaechi strongly criticized the leadership of the party, formally distancing himself from the declared outcomes due to what he described as a compromised process. Commenting on the situation, Amaechi stated: “Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced.”

He emphasized his commitment to democratic integrity, noting that he would not compromise on the principles of transparency. Amaechi added: “I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word. I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party.”

Amidst the unfolding internal friction within the ADC—where results collated so far indicated Atiku Abubakar maintaining an early lead in several state chapters—the former Vice President shifted focus from the electoral contest to issue a public statement honoring Amaechi’s birthday.

Posting an official photograph of both political figures together on his verified social media handle, Atiku expressed his high regard for the former Rivers State Governor.

Atiku stated: “Happy Birthday to my brother and fellow patriot, H.E. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, @ChibuikeAmaechi. Your courage, conviction, and years of service to Rivers State and Nigeria continue to inspire many across the nation. I wish you good health, strength, and many more years of impactful service to our dear country. -AA”

The timing of the message has drawn considerable attention from political observers monitoring potential strategic realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the two prominent leaders navigate the fallout of the contested primary exercise.
