The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has thrown down a major gauntlet to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Indicating that Tinubu’s tenure will end at the next polls, Atiku advised the incumbent president to begin packing his bags out of the Presidential Villa in Abuja and prepare for a return to his political base in Lagos.

The former Vice President made these remarks while addressing journalists immediately after clinching the presidential ticket at the ADC national convention in Abuja.

According to Atiku, “President Tinubu should pack and go back to Lagos. I congratulate my fellow contestants for this ticket to represent our great party in the elections scheduled for early next year. I know that you are driven by your patriotism and commitment to a better Nigeria and improved life for our people.”

Atiku secured his victory by defeating his closest rivals, including Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, polling a massive 1,846,370 votes in the just-concluded internal election.

However, despite Atiku’s public declaration that the primary election was entirely transparent, free, and fair, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have openly rejected the announced results, plunging the party’s victory into a wave of internal controversy.
