The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, the lawmaker representing Kogi East, over accusations of anti-party activities.
According to party stakeholders, the disciplinary measure was taken to protect the unity, discipline, and electoral viability of the APC within the senatorial district.
The suspension was finalized following a resolution passed by the Ward Executive Committee during its meeting on May 26, 2026, which followed an extensive review of what party officials termed “protracted anti-party activities” by the lawmaker.
In an official suspension letter dated Thursday and signed by the Ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed, the Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed, and other members of the executive committee, Echocho was accused of consorting with opposition figures and participating in discussions intended to facilitate a defection from the APC.

The letter noted that:“the senator’s actions followed what party leaders called a disappointing performance during APC’s political consultations and internal processes.”
Party leaders further alleged that these maneuvers were aimed at actualizing a “self-serving third-term agenda.”
Additionally, the Ward Executive Committee accused Echocho of actively undermining the APC’s interests despite utilizing the party’s platform for eight years.
The executives claimed that the lawmaker failed to secure victory in his own polling unit during both the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and neglected to offer necessary leadership during critical political contests in Kogi State.
Addressing reporters following the announcement, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa stated that the suspension was both urgent and vital to protecting the party’s institutional standing in Kogi East.
He said:“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become cancerous to the party. For eight years, he served himself and his family while the people suffered neglect and poor representation.
“We can no longer accommodate a senator who failed the people and has shown desperation to pull down the house simply because the party and the people rejected his third-term ambition,” Musa said.
Stakeholders throughout the Kogi East district have similarly voiced discontent over what they termed a lack of tangible developmental impact from Echocho’s tenure in the legislative chamber.

They maintained that the APC must place a higher premium on loyalty, public service, and collective progress over individual aspirations.
Local party members reportedly praised the Ward Executive Committee for taking what they described as a courageous and principled action to purge the political structure of elements working against its internal stability.
The suspension letter concluded by noting that:“the decision would serve as a deterrent to others whose actions threaten the unity and electoral strength of the APC in Kogi State.”
