Okpebholo’s Ally Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer In Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have taken Mr Kelly Okungbowa, a prominent political associate of Governor Monday Okpebholo widely known as Ebo Stone, into custody following the alleged physical abuse of an officer on duty.

The confrontation took place on May 30, 2026, in the Upper Sakponba area within the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to insiders, the officer was performing his official responsibilities when Okungbowa reportedly assaulted him, prompting law enforcement to intercept and detain the suspect.

Edo State police public relations officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the detention and stated that the suspect will face prosecution upon the conclusion of ongoing inquiries.

“She stressed that no individual is above the law and urged members of the public to respect law enforcement officers carrying out their duties.”

In response to the incident, Kola Edokpayi, a human rights advocate and President of the Talakawa Parliament, denounced the reported attack, labeling the behavior as unacceptable.

He released a statement praising the police personnel on the scene for maintaining their composure and behaving professionally in the face of what he called provocation.

Edokpayi emphasized that police officers should be treated with respect as public servants responsible for safeguarding lives and property, adding that any disputes with law enforcement should be resolved through official channels instead of physical clashes.
