The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, has revealed that the party’s primary election is not the real method used to choose its candidates, stating instead that the party hierarchy selects them.
He made this disclosure in a video circulating on social media, where he was seen holding a meeting with members of the party.
Speaking in the Yoruba language, Basiru explained that the names of party candidates for the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives are uploaded directly by the National Secretariat.
Because of this, he dismissed any mockery regarding certain aspirants failing to win primaries, labeling it a joke.
His words: “If you claim candidate(s) did not win primary, who will upload the name(s), it is mere child’s play. Claims that someone emerge in primary is a ruse, we know there is no primary. We don’t hold primary in our party. We pick those that we want to pick. The claim of a winner of a primary is false”.
During the session in the video, he went as far as questioning a former lawmaker on whether he had won through a primary election, to which the lawmaker answered that his selection was finalized inside the Government House.
