There is palpable confusion in the green chamber as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday read a letter announcing the defection of the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development comes on the heels of Chinda already emerging as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State.
Interestingly, the defection letter read by the Speaker on Tuesday was dated April 23, 2026.
Following the formal announcement of his exit from the opposition party, Chinda subsequently resigned his position as the Minority Leader of the House.
He is already facing a legal battle over claims that his defection from the PDP to the APC did not follow due process.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is expected to elect a new minority leader following Chinda’s resignation.
