A Delta State High Court has remanded five suspects, including a dismissed police officer, in connection with the extra-judicial killing of 28-year-old rising singer Oghenemine Mene Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan.
The musician was shot dead in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26.
According to media reports, the young singer had visited the Effurun Motor Park to pick up a waybill parcel sent from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Suspicious of the package, park operators insisted on opening it to check the contents. Though Mr. Ogidi initially resisted, reinforcing their suspicions, he eventually gave in under pressure.
Upon opening the parcel, operators discovered a Beretta pistol and four rounds of live ammunition.
The horrifying moment the singer was killed was recorded live on video and circulated widely.
In the viral clip, the late singer, who was already handcuffed, could be heard pleading with the operatives and promising to cooperate fully.
“I will tell you everything. My friends deceived me,” the man was heard saying repeatedly while seated on the ground.
Despite his continuous pleas, an armed police operative attached to the Effurun Area Command was filmed loading his rifle and immediately shooting the helpless singer dead.
The footage sparked massive nationwide outrage, with Nigerians demanding immediate justice, accountability, and the prosecution of everyone involved.
The five suspects, led by former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman, were arraigned before High Court 5 in Asaba.
The other four defendants facing trial are Onoloko Dauroupamo, Okoh Kelechi, Goodluck Kingsley, and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu shared updates on the development via a Facebook post, revealing that the suspects were brought to court under charge number DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66c/2026.
He noted that the court ordered all five individuals to be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre while the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for formal legal advice.
Prior to the court arraignment, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, explained that the incident began when Effurun Area Command operatives acted on intelligence reports that the deceased was trying to ship a package containing an illegal firearm. However, the operational handling went completely wrong.
“The police officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, in clear violation of Force Order 237 and the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force, discharged his firearm, leading to the death of the suspect,” he said.
Following the incident, Usman was detained and sent to the Force Headquarters in Abuja to face the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC). On April 29, the Nigeria Police Force officially ordered the dismissal of the errant officers from service.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Placid, confirmed in a statement that the disciplinary committee concluded its investigation and established “unequivocally” that Mr. Usman acted in total violation of Force Order 237 and standard firearms regulations.
