Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly assault on a Nigerian Army base situated along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State, leaving at least eight soldiers dead and multiple others wounded, according to military sources.
An insider at the affected facility confirmed that the ambush took place under the cover of a severe downpour in the early hours of Friday.
Recounting the incident, the source stated, “162 Battalion Mandara Buratai Road, eight soldiers were killed in action. They attacked us at 4 a.m. today (Friday) when it was raining.”
An additional military source informed SaharaReporters that the insurgents successfully breached portions of the camp, executing a vicious onslaught against the stationed personnel.
Providing grim details of the aftermath, the source revealed, “They killed eight soldiers and beheaded them. Several others were injured during the attack.”
Information gathered by SaharaReporters indicates that the terrorists arrived in massive numbers, taking the troops completely by surprise due to the adverse weather conditions.
Security officials noted that backup forces have since been dispatched to the location, and operations are underway to fully determine the casualty count and secure control of the base.
Graphic video clips and photographs from the site surfaced online documenting the destruction caused by the raid, underscoring the severity of the attack, even though defense officials are yet to release a formal statement.
This latest incursion is part of a wave of fresh attacks by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) hitting military targets across the North-East, happening in spite of the ongoing counterinsurgency campaigns by Nigerian troops.
