The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended four suspected members of an illegal gun-running syndicate.
This breakthrough follows an extensive investigation into the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.
That specific event had previously drawn significant public attention due to the extrajudicial killing of the suspect, Mene Ogidi, by a police officer.
During a formal briefing, Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi explained that the arrests were the culmination of several weeks of intelligence-driven operations spanning Bayelsa and Imo states.
The Commissioner also provided a major update regarding the initial incident, confirming that the dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman—who was caught on video fatally shooting the suspect Mene Ogidi—along with his accomplices, has been returned to Delta State.
They are currently awaiting trial, as their case file has been formally submitted to the Attorney General of Delta State.

The investigation into the gun-running network revealed a complex trail of transactions. The first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was arrested in Bayelsa on May 4.
According to investigators, Chukwuemeka confessed to using his roommate’s phone to procure the firearm for N290,000, which he subsequently sold for N380,000 to an individual identified as “Desmond.”
While Desmond remains at large, police believe he was responsible for arranging the transport of the weapon to Effurun, where it was meant to be collected by the late Oghenemine Ogidi for delivery to Sapele.
Further police efforts led to the arrest of Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15. During his interrogation, Princewill reportedly disclosed that he had obtained the pistol from Amadi Felix Chibuike for N200,000.
Following this lead, Amadi Felix was tracked and taken into custody in Owerri on May 16. The police have identified all these suspects as members of the Black Axe confraternity.
The Command has stated that they will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are fully concluded, while ongoing efforts remain focused on apprehending the remaining members of the syndicate, particularly the fugitive suspect known as Desmond.
