The political landscape of Bauchi State is in mourning following the death of the former Deputy Governor, Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, who has passed away at 69.
Katagum, who held the position of deputy governor between 2018 and 2019 under the administration of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday.
The news was confirmed by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, the digital and creative media aide to the former governor.
In a formal announcement, Lukman stated, “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.”
He continued, “The deceased passed away in the early hours of today after a life of dedicated service to his community, Bauchi State and the nation.”
While funeral arrangements are pending, Lukman expressed his condolences, stating, “May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this great loss. Ameen.”
Beyond his role as deputy governor, the late Arch. Audu Sule Katagum was a distinguished figure, serving as the Wazirin Katagum and formerly as the Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House.
He was also the son of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Sule Katagum, who was the inaugural chairman of Nigeria’s Federal Public Service Commission.
Recognized for his extensive contributions to both public service and community development, his passing is regarded as a significant loss to the Katagum Emirate and the entire state.
He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
