In a notable political shift within Bayelsa State, Hon. Fyneman Wilson, a prominent chieftain and founding member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wilson announced his resignation from the NDC on Sunday, citing deep-seated concerns regarding the internal operations of his former party, which he characterized as a “sole proprietorship” that is “heading nowhere.”
During a reception held at the Golden Tulip, Government House, Onopa, Wilson stated that his departure from the NDC was primarily influenced by a lack of internal democracy and a notable absence of collective leadership.
He alleged that the party had effectively become a “one-man show” with no clear strategic future. Wilson was joined by a large number of his supporters from across Bayelsa State, all of whom transitioned into the APC during the event.
The defection ceremony served as a significant display of political maneuvering, attended by high-ranking Bayelsa APC leaders.
Among those present were the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Peter Akpe; former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi; and the State APC Secretary, Barr. Odoji Japan.
Also in attendance was Hon. Living Mitin, the member representing Ekeremor Constituency II in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, who participated in formally receiving Wilson and his followers into the ruling party.
Political analysts view this defection as a substantial boost for the APC in Bayelsa State.
The move arrives during a period of ongoing political realignments as parties prepare for upcoming electoral cycles.
