Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu and four other former police officers have entered pleas of not guilty regarding their involvement in the April 26 extra-judicial killing of 28-year-old Warri-based musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, widely known as “OG Million.”
The incident, which occurred in Effurun, Delta State, sparked significant public outrage after footage surfaced of the musician’s death.
The defendants, who have since been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, were arraigned on Tuesday before Justice M. Nduka at the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba.
Alongside the prime suspect, ASP Nuhu—also known as “Ogbegbe”—the other accused officers include ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
Legal proceedings indicate that ASP Nuhu faces a single count of “Murder, punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The remaining four defendants are charged with “Negligent Acts Causing Harm, punishable under Section 344 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”
Following the entry of their not-guilty pleas, Justice Nduka adjourned the matter until July 14, 2026, for the commencement of the trial.
Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, who is leading the prosecution, emphasized the gravity of the case.
“The defendants have been arraigned and have taken their pleas, as they are entitled to do,” he stated.
“They pleaded not guilty, but our case is very straightforward. Nobody has the right to make himself the accuser, the judge and the executioner.”
Describing the killing as “abhorrent,” Ohwovoriole expressed the state’s commitment to a diligent and expeditious trial, adding, “We are fully prepared for the trial. I assure the public that justice will be served.”
Defense counsel C. Promise also addressed the court regarding the next steps, noting, “They have taken their pleas and the matter has been adjourned to 14 July. We will return to court on that date for the trial.”
The charges stem from an incident at the Effurun Main Motor Park in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Oghenemine Ogidi was apprehended while attempting to transport a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to Sapele.
While he was restrained with his hands tied behind his back, he was fatally shot with an AK-47 by ASP Nuhu in a public execution that was later captured in a widely circulated viral video.
