The Lagos State Government has apprehended 56-year-old John Ehidreme for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel located at No. 18 Oluoga Street, Ikorodu.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the arrest on Tuesday via his official X handle.
Highlighting the severity of the offense, the Commissioner emphasized that such actions are direct violations of state environmental laws and contribute significantly to public health hazards.
“Earlier today, Mr. John Ehidreme, 56, was arrested for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.
The Lagos State Government reiterates that indiscriminate waste disposal is a violation of environmental laws, as it obstructs drainage channels, contributes to flooding, and poses significant public health and environmental risks,” Wahab stated.
The Commissioner urged all residents to abandon the practice of indiscriminate dumping and to ensure they utilize only government-approved waste management facilities for their refuse.
This arrest is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown by the Lagos State Government aimed at enforcing environmental regulations and preventing the blockage of vital drainage infrastructure, which remains a key factor in urban flooding across the state.
