Mary Amaechi, the mother of the former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has passed away peacefully at the age of 89.

The politician’s family announced her demise on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in an official statement released by the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office.

The late matriarch was described as a dedicated Christian and respected community women’s leader who spent her life promoting peace, unity, and service.

“Late Mrs Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader, whose beliefs and faith in God were firm and resolute.”

The family added that she was “loved and highly respected in her community, and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her and beyond.”

Amaechi and his entire family expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of condolences and sympathy they have received following her passing.

“Rt Hon. Amaechi and the entire family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love already being shown to them during this difficult time.
