FG Reveals Ambassadors-Designate Accepted By Host Countries 

The Federal Government has disclosed that sixty-five out of sixty-nine diplomatic envoys nominated by President Bola Tinubu have been officially welcomed by their receiving nations, accounting for ninety-seven percent of the total postings.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the clearance procedure for securing agrément—the official permission given by a host state to a foreign diplomat—is proceeding smoothly in accordance with global diplomatic standards.

In an official release signed by ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa on Saturday in Abuja, the administration dismissed anxieties regarding delays in accreditation, pointing out that only two nations have yet to deliver their official clearance.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public and the international community that 97 per cent of the ambassadors appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have successfully received the Agreement (Agrément) of their respective host countries,” the statement read.

The ministry reminded the public that President Tinubu assigned 69 diplomatic nominees to various nations following their vetting and approval by the Senate. Out of this total, 65 have received clearance from their respective host governments, while one nominee designated for Togo turned down the posting prior to the formal submission of an agrément request.

Furthermore, the nominee assigned to Algeria passed away in April 2026, and administrative efforts to find a successor are actively underway.

“Therefore, there are only two countries pending that the ministry is yet to receive confirmation of acceptance/Agreement. However, assurances have been received from the two friendly countries that their consent would be given in due course,” the ministry stated.

Officials noted that they are in active communication with the relevant authorities of the two remaining nations and remain optimistic that final clearances will be issued shortly.

The ministry added that a significant portion of Nigeria’s diplomatic representatives have already touched down in their assigned nations, presented their Letters of Credence, and officially commenced their responsibilities as President Tinubu’s primary envoys.
