President Bola Tinubu has named Yakubu Jang—the son of ex-Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang—to the position of Senior Special Assistant within the Presidential Office.
Vice President Kashim Shettima broke the news on Saturday during his presentation of a congratulatory message from President Tinubu during the milestone 80th birthday ceremony and autobiography presentation for the elder Jang in Jos, Plateau State.
“On behalf of Mr President, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President,” Shettima said.
This official declaration took place during a well-attended gathering hosted at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos, drawing notable personalities such as Vice President Shettima, past President Goodluck Jonathan, various state governors, high-ranking government functionaries, traditional rulers, and other esteemed guests.
According to Shettima, this selection underscores the administration’s acknowledgment of competence, dedication, and the importance of integrating pluralistic viewpoints into statecraft.
Attendees at the venue, comprising political figures and family associates, greeted the disclosure with enthusiastic cheers.
The reveal coincided with a gathering of prominent Nigerian political figures who assembled to celebrate the elder statesman’s extensive career spanning service in the Nigerian Air Force, a tenure as Military Administrator, two terms governing Plateau State, and time in the Senate
. Reaching the age of eighty, the former governor also used the occasion to launch his personal memoir titled Airman to Politics: My Life.
