Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has asserted that the Nigerian constitution is the root cause of controversies surrounding the academic credentials of political candidates.

Yesufu shared her perspective on Tuesday in a post on her verified X handle.

Her remarks come in the wake of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent publication of personal details and credentials for presidential candidates vying in the 2027 general elections, which notably included President Bola Tinubu omitting his primary and secondary school qualifications.

Weighing in on the ongoing debate, the co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement stated, “On the issue of certificate, our constitution is the problem.”

She further emphasized, “That till this moment there is no constitutional change, that is where the real problem lies.”
