A serving Nigerian soldier has reportedly landed in deep trouble with military authorities following a viral online interaction.
The personnel was arrested after appearing in his military uniform on a TikTok live session to beg a popular content creator for financial assistance.
The incident drew widespread attention after the soldier crossed paths with popular influencer King Pedro on a live stream.
During the session, the soldier—who disclosed that he has served in the Nigerian Army for five years and is attached to the Army Aviation Hangar in Minna, Niger State—was asked if he had eaten. He responded, “Yes sir, I have not eaten,” and proceeded to solicit funds.
Instead of offering financial help, King Pedro publicly rebuked the soldier. Condemning the act, the influencer stated:
“You have been in the Army for five years, and you are wearing military uniform to come on live stream to beg for money. You don’t have respect for that uniform… They should lock you up and court-martial you. If you want to beg, wear civilian clothes. Don’t disgrace the Nigerian Army.”
Following the viral exchange, military authorities tracked down and arrested the soldier. According to sources close to the matter, he was picked up at the 234 Battalion in Badagry, Lagos State, where he was stationed, despite his official attachment to the Minna hangar.
In a post-arrest video, the soldier confirmed his identity and location within the Badagry battalion.
Insiders revealed that King Pedro had similarly berated another junior soldier during a separate live session after that personnel mentioned serving for only a year.
The video has ignited a fierce debate online. While many social media users heavily criticized the soldier for bringing disrepute to the military uniform, others pointed fingers at the harsh economic realities in the country, arguing that severe financial pressure is pushing some service personnel to resort to desperate measures.
