The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Nollywood actress Tope Osoba, who passed away after a valiant battle with breast cancer at the age of 40.

According to reports by Vanguard, the heartbreaking news was shared on Wednesday by fellow actress Foluke Daramola via her official Instagram page. Osoba initially made her health challenges public in 2024, when she reached out for financial assistance following her first breast cancer surgery.

During the public appeal, Daramola disclosed that the actress urgently needed a second operation to clear remaining cancerous particles, with the procedure estimated to cost around N12 million.

Footage showing Osoba undergoing medical checks was also shared, highlighting efforts made to seek support from Bolaji Amusan, the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).

Recounting how her health battle began, Osoba previously shared that she discovered a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination. Initially, a doctor dismissed the lump as a minor change associated with childbearing. However, her persistence led her to push for comprehensive medical tests, which ultimately confirmed a cancer diagnosis.

Following the confirmation of her passing, colleagues, entertainment industry stakeholders, and fans have taken to social media to share heartfelt tributes, remembering her remarkable talent, vibrant spirit, and incredible strength throughout her illness.
