The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has disclosed that about 18 states are currently under investigation regarding allegations of public fund mismanagement.

Wilson Uwujaren, the commission’s Director of Public Affairs, made this revelation during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday.

He chose to withhold the specific names of the states involved.

Uwujaren spoke while addressing the commission’s recent decision to restrict an Osun State Government account, noting it was part of broader actions taken or planned against state governments.

When asked directly if other states faced probes, he confirmed the tally reached double digits.

He stated, “Like we said in the statement, there are about 18 other states that we have ongoing investigations,”

When pressed to reveal their identities, he declined.

He noted, “I don’t want to start mentioning those states by name now,”

Defending the decision against transparency demands from the interviewer, Uwujaren insisted the secrecy protects the integrity of ongoing probes rather than shielding anyone.

He explained, “Not running away per se, but not to jeopardise the investigation that is currently ongoing,”
