Uncertainty has surrounded the medical status of Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu after the player collapsed during a pre-season friendly match against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old footballer, who recently transitioned from Kano Pillars, lost consciousness on the pitch during the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup and was transported to K-Dara Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel initially declared him dead.

Following the incident, Katsina United released an official condolence message, while football clubs such as Heartland and Kano Pillars expressed grief over the player’s passing across social media channels.

In an unexpected turn of events, workers at the Katsina General Hospital mortuary noticed physical movement from the body. He was swiftly moved to the Intensive Care Unit and provided with supplemental oxygen.

Nasir Gide, the media officer for Katsina United, verified the situation, stating that the player had been pronounced dead on multiple occasions before vital signs were detected.

Heartland FC, representing one of Chinedu’s former teams, also acknowledged the event and called on supporters to offer prayers for his medical recovery.

As of Wednesday morning, Chinedu continues to receive medical attention in critical condition at Katsina General Hospital, while supporters and officials await an official medical bulletin.
