The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clinched victory at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
Aregbesola, who defected from the APC previously and now serves as a key leader and national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), voted earlier in the day at PU 001, Cooperative Building Junction, Isare, Ward 08, located in Ilesa East Local Government Area.
When votes were counted at the unit, the APC standard-bearer, Bola Oyebamiji, emerged victorious with 256 votes.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party followed in second place with 43 votes, while the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, whom Aregbesola backs, finished third with 13 votes.
The outcome marks an early setback for the ADC camp in Aregbesola’s political stronghold. Aregbesola previously governed the state from 2010 to 2018.
