Unknown gunmen have shot and killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman for Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, while abducting another passenger from his vehicle.

The deadly ambush occurred on Thursday along the busy Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the tragic development on Friday, the Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, issued an official statement to press men in Lokoja.
According to Saliu, the violent attack happened at approximately 5:00 pm when heavily armed bandits emerged from nearby thickets and launched an indiscriminate barrage of bullets at passing vehicles.
She disclosed that law enforcement officers deployed to the scene discovered a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH left deserted along the road.
“The driver, identified as Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, was found dead in the vehicle, while another occupant was taken into the bush by the assailants,” the police statement read.
The police image maker assured the public that a joint tactical force comprising police personnel and military operatives has been dispatched to comb the surrounding forest reserves to rescue the kidnapped victim and track down the culprits.
She added that the body of the deceased politician has been deposited at Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for medical examination, while investigators follow crucial intelligence leads.
Reacting to the assault, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, ordered an immediate scale-up of armed patrols along the highway axis to restore confidence and apprehend the criminals.
The command called on commuters, commercial drivers, and local communities along the transit corridor to stay alert and instantly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The police authority noted that additional developments regarding the ongoing manhunt will be made public as investigation progresses.
