Steps On How To Buy Fuel Via App, Serve Yourself At NNPC Stations

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has commenced the deployment of self-service fuel pumps at selected NNPC Retail outlets across the country, enabling motorists to purchase and dispense petrol independently using a mobile application.

The initiative forms part of NNPC’s strategic rollout plan to establish between 50 and 70 automated, self-service retail stations within six months to modernize fuel distribution operations.

Moving away from traditional attendant-driven operations, the self-service model allows drivers to choose their desired fuel volume, complete digital payments through an app, and generate a validation code to authorize the dispenser.

NNPC Retail published an official step-by-step user guide on its X platform on Friday, September 11, 2026, detailing how customers can navigate the new automated system:

Step 1: Download the Application
Motorists intending to utilize the self-service pumps must first download the NRL Fuel App, accessible via verified links provided on the official NNPC X handle.

Step 2: Select Purchase Type
Open the application, tap on the “Fuel Purchase” option, and choose the specific fuel type required for your vehicle.

Step 3: Locate Participating Station
Browse the station directory to find an NNPC Retail outlet operating the self-service facility. Eligible locations display a green “Self-Serve” badge beside the station name, which must be selected to proceed.

Step 4: Enter Amount and Pay
Specify the desired purchase amount in Naira. Review the calculated quantity and price metrics, then tap “Pay from Wallet” to complete the transaction.

Step 5: Generate Order Receipt and Code
Upon successful payment processing, the app generates an electronic receipt displaying the Order ID, an 8-digit Self-Service Code, and a printable QR Code.

Step 6: Dispense Fuel at the Terminal
At the pump terminal, input your 8-digit self-service code and press the hash key (#). Once the system validates the code, lift the nozzle and dispense the exact volume paid for directly into your tank.

Elaborating on the corporate transformation, NNPC Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, noted that the model aligns with broader plans to convert standard filling stations into comprehensive energy and mobility hubs.

Speaking at the inauguration of the flagship smart station along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja, Executive Director of Retail Operations and Mobility, Shettima Baba-Kukawa, affirmed that customers can complete full fuel purchases from their smartphones and self-dispense with total volume accuracy.

The management added that future smart stations will integrate traditional petrol sales alongside electric vehicle charging ports, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas, and ancillary mobility services.
