JAMB Explains ‘Not Admitted’, ‘Admission In Progress’ Statuses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has provided a detailed explanation regarding the true meaning of Not Admitted, Admission in Progress, and Admitted statuses shown on candidates’ Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) portals.

In an informational explainer video released on Thursday, the examination body encouraged candidates to continuously monitor their CAPS profiles for updates throughout the ongoing admission exercise.

Addressing candidates currently seeing the Not Admitted status, the Board clarified, This simply means you’ve not been offered admission yet. However, it does not necessarily mean you will not be admitted.

It advised affected applicants to stay expectant and routinely check their dashboards.

Regarding the Admission in Progress status, JAMB explained that the designation usually signifies that a candidate has been selected by their chosen institution, but the final procedural steps remain incomplete.

This means your institution’s admission officer has proposed you for admission, but awaiting the head of institution’s recommendation, JAMB stated.

The Board noted that the status also applies when an institution’s head has endorsed a candidate and the file is undergoing final review for approval or disapproval by JAMB.

However, the Board warned candidates against misinterpreting this status as a final confirmation of entry.

Please note that ‘Admission in Progress’ does not mean automatic admission, JAMB emphasized, noting that recommendations can still be turned down if an applicant fails to satisfy basic criteria.

This is because the recommended offer could still be disapproved by the Board if you don’t meet the prerequisite requirements.

According to the Board, a candidate’s status transitions to Admitted only after JAMB grants official approval to the institution’s recommendation.

This is the point you get the message, ‘CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION’ the Board explained, adding that candidates at this stage can either accept or decline the admission offer directly via CAPS.

Reminding candidates that profile updates remain fluid throughout the admission window, JAMB added, Remember, your CAPS status will keep changing as the admission process continues until the final stage where you print your admission letter.

Candidates were urged to rely solely on verified JAMB communication outlets for authentic updates.
