‘They Sprayed Something In The Cell’ – Surviving Miner Recounts Alleged Incident In NSCDC Custody [VIDEO]

A survivor of the recent mining tragedy in Niger State has come forward with disturbing claims, alleging that personnel belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps deliberately released an unidentified chemical spray inside a detention cell holding the arrested miners.

The survivor detailed the harrowing experience during an official visit by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, to check on survivors currently held in the custody of the Department of State Services.

Footage documenting the high-profile ministerial interaction was shared online.

Recounting the sequence of events following their apprehension, the survivor explained how overcrowding rapidly escalated the distress within the facility.

“They put us in a small room. There were 17 of us, and they put us there. Then they brought eight more people. We told them that the room was too small and that it was not enough for us, but they told us to stand up, so we stood up,” he stated.

The situation reportedly deteriorated further once inmates were transferred into the main cell block under stifling environmental conditions.

“They later took us to the cell. It was very hot there, and they locked us inside. They then started spraying something. After that, some people started falling down,” the survivor recounted.

Despite inmates sounding alarms as health conditions collapsed, guards allegedly failed to provide immediate assistance or intervention.

“Some of us were still conscious, but they said we should remain there. We told them that people were dying, but they did not listen,” he added.

Reiterating the uncertainty surrounding the agent used, the survivor noted, “I did not know what the substance was, but after they sprayed it, people started falling down. That was what happened to us.”

The testimony underscores the active inquiries being spearheaded by federal authorities, with the Minister’s visit serving to gather firsthand accounts directly from individuals who lived through the deadly containment ordeal.
