Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has relieved the State Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, of his official duties, taking effect immediately.
Monday Uzor, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, made the development public through an official media statement released on Saturday.
“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon . Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office the Honourable Commissioner for Works Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam,” the announcement conveyed.
Furthermore, Mbam received instructions to return all state assets currently in his custody, specifically his official assigned vehicle, directly to the Secretary to the State Government.
He was additionally instructed to hand over all departmental duties and ongoing portfolio responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary operating within the Ministry of Works.
While the official bulletin omitted any specific justifications behind the commissioner’s sudden dismissal, it noted that the governor remains fully dedicated to advancing public infrastructure and providing purposeful leadership for state residents.
This development marks another high-level disciplinary intervention involving Mbam under the current administration.
Back in March 2026, Governor Nwifuru slammed an indefinite suspension order on the Works Commissioner alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara, citing perceived dereliction of duty.
Although the suspended executives were subsequently reinstated in May, reports at the time left ambiguity regarding the exact individuals cleared to resume their posts.
The latest directive from the state government once again left the precise motivation for Mbam’s removal undisclosed.
