A former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has passed away.
Reports indicate that Idris died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
In the wake of his demise, the sitting Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo; immediate past Governor Yahaya Bello; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullahi Bello; alongside several high-ranking state dignitaries paid a condolence visit to the family of the late leader at his Abuja residence.
The visit was confirmed in a Facebook statement on Sunday by Onogwu Muhammed, Special Adviser on Public Relations to Governor Ododo and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, who shared photographs of the government delegation at the residence.
He stated, “Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello, CON; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials have arrived at the Abuja residence of the late former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who passed away this afternoon.”
Idris held sway as the executive governor of Kogi State between 2003 and 2012, first assuming office in May 2003 and securing re-election in 2007, before handing over to Idris Wada in January 2012.
The exact cause of his death was not immediately made public at the time of reporting.
