Man Kills Girlfriend Over HIV Infection Argument In Enugu [VIDEOS]

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have taken a 30-year-old man, Okpara Emmanuel, into custody following the tragic death of his girlfriend during an altercation over who transmitted HIV to whom within the Olympic Layout neighborhood.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Command Spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe stated that neighbors discovered the decaying remains of the victim inside the suspect’s residence before contacting law enforcement.

Ndukwe noted that officers attached to the Awkunanaw Division took Emmanuel into custody around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, intervening just in time to rescue him from an enraged mob.

According to preliminary police reports, the suspect allegedly murdered his partner—identified simply as Chinyere—on September 19 and stashed her body in his bathroom.

The PPRO explained that Emmanuel wrapped the corpse in plastic bags and locked it away, but the foul stench emanating from the decomposing body eventually raised alarm among residents in the building.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly killed the victim on September 19, wrapped her remains in a nylon and locked them inside the toilet of his apartment.

“The offensive odour of the decomposing body subsequently attracted neighbours, who forced the door open and apprehended him before the arrival of the police,” the statement said.

Police have since moved the body to a mortuary facility for preservation and post-mortem examination, as homicide detectives work to trace and notify the deceased’s family.

During initial questioning, Emmanuel reportedly admitted to committing the murder, explaining that a heated dispute broke out regarding their health status prior to the attack.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, stating that the incident followed an argument between him and the deceased over allegations of who infected the other with Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

“He further stated that, during the argument, he struck the deceased on the head with a pestle, resulting in her death, and subsequently wrapped and dumped her remains inside the toilet,” Ndukwe said.

Enugu State Police Commissioner Mamman Giwa has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a comprehensive probe into the homicide, with the command assuring that the suspect will face prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation.

Police authorities also advised young women to remain safety conscious, urging them to regularly notify family members or trusted contacts of their whereabouts when visiting companions.
