Man City Found Guilty Of 114 EPL Charges — Report

Manchester City have been found guilty of all but one of the 115 Premier League financial charges brought against them, according to a report by The Athletic on Friday.

The decision comes following a multi-year investigation by an independent commission into the club’s financial practices covering nine seasons between 2009 and 2018. The tribunal found City guilty on 114 counts while dismissing a single charge.

Responding to the leak, Manchester City issued a statement maintaining that the regulatory process is not yet concluded and reiterating their innocence.

“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023,” a club spokesperson stated to The Athletic.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence,” the spokesperson added.

The outcome of the hearing, which began in September 2024 after four years of Premier League investigations, threatens to reshape the landscape of English football.

The allegations against the Abu Dhabi United Group-owned club focused on claims of masking direct owner funding as legitimate sponsorship revenue from entities like Etihad and Etisalat, off-the-books payments to former manager Roberto Mancini, and failure to cooperate with investigators.

While no immediate punishment or sanction has been officially published, the independent panel possesses broad disciplinary authority.

Potential penalties under Premier League guidelines range from substantial monetary fines and severe points deductions to expulsion from the top flight or the retrospective stripping of domestic titles.

City are expected to launch a formal appeal within the 14-day window allowed under Premier League rules, triggering a fresh three-member judicial panel to review the verdict and delaying any immediate sanctions.
