Police Begin Disciplinary Action Against Inspector Over Anti-Peter Obi Viral Video

The Lagos State Police Command has identified an inspector captured in a viral social media video and initiated internal disciplinary proceedings following inflammatory political and ethnic comments made inside a public transport vehicle.

The officer, identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, was named in an official release issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi.

In the widely circulated video footage, Frank—who was wearing his police uniform while seated in the front passenger seat of a moving vehicle—was recorded making disparaging remarks regarding the 2027 presidential ambition of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi, asserting that no individual of Igbo extraction could attain the Nigerian presidency.

The officer further declared that Obi would not emerge victorious in the 2027 general election, while airing additional politically and ethnically charged opinions against the opposition candidate and the Igbo ethnic group.

While the Lagos State Command’s official statement omitted the specific details of Frank’s utterances, police authorities distanced the force from the officer’s actions, clarifying that his statements were made strictly in a personal capacity and do not reflect the institutional standing or political neutrality of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

“The command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force; it also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement noted.

The command confirmed that Inspector Frank will undergo formal disciplinary proceedings under the police code of conduct.

Reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement to impartiality, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, stated that police personnel are duty-bound to exhibit civil decorum, maintain strict professionalism, and treat members of the public with maximum respect.

Fatai emphasized that donning the official police uniform places a binding ethical responsibility on officers to preserve the dignity, neutrality, and institutional integrity of the force at all times.
