Youths in the Jega area of Kebbi State destroyed posters and billboards of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris over the weekend in a public demonstration against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The protest broke out on Saturday as groups of youths returning from a football match began chanting “bamaso” (meaning “we don’t want” in Hausa) along major roads in the town while targeting APC political banners and campaign structures mounted at strategic locations.
During the demonstration, the youths threw stones at political billboards and damaged several vehicles at a local car dealership, shattering their windscreens before security personnel arrived.
Security operatives were deployed to disperse the crowd and restore order to Jega town.
Reacting to the incident during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Isah Assalafi, condemned the destruction and demanded a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies.
Assalafi urged security authorities to “act decisively, investigate thoroughly, and prosecute every person found responsible for the protest,” emphasizing that “nobody should be shielded by political affiliation, position, or influence.”
The APC spokesperson called on opposition political leaders to control their supporters and commit to peaceful democratic processes, adding that the ruling party remains committed to protecting lives, securing communities, and upholding democratic engagement in Kebbi State.
