The retail price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, continues to fluctuate across various states and major urban centers in Nigeria, influenced by supply chain dynamics, foreign exchange movements, and local transportation overheads.
Across key commercial hubs and retail gas plants, the price of cooking gas currently averages between ₦1,350 and ₦1,600 per kilogram. This places the average cost of refilling a 6kg cylinder between ₦8,100 and ₦9,600, while a 12.5kg cylinder ranges from ₦16,800 to ₦20,000 depending on the location and retail outlet.
In South-West cities such as Lagos and Ibadan, prices at major cooking gas plants remain on the lower side of the national average, retailing between ₦1,350 and ₦1,450 per kg due to proximity to primary coastal depots and import terminals like NavGas, Techno Oil, and 11 Plc.
In the South-South and South-East regions, including Port Harcourt, Benin, and Enugu, consumers are paying between ₦1,400 and ₦1,500 per kg at neighborhood refilling stations and independent retail outlets.
Meanwhile, in Northern states, including Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Sokoto, retail prices hover between ₦1,450 and ₦1,600 per kg. The higher rates in these areas reflect additional land transportation costs from coastal depots, alongside regional distribution logistics.
Industry marketers note that while wholesale depot prices at major facilities remain relatively steady, localized retail tariffs continue to adjust based on storage capacity, logistics fees, and neighborhood demand.
