President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he will not personally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at every campaign stop across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, explaining that state duties, economic demands, and investor engagements require his sustained attention.
Speaking on Wednesday during the official unveiling of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, the President tasked council leaders with driving nationwide mobilization while he focuses on core governance responsibilities.
Addressing party leaders who cautioned against letting campaign activities overshadow governance, President Tinubu affirmed, You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now.
Pointing to national financial obligations and external debt management as primary considerations for limiting his campaign itinerary, the President stated, So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait.
Tinubu highlighted ongoing efforts to secure long-term capital investments that will strengthen the domestic economy for future generations, noting, We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children.
While assigning local and regional campaign execution to the council structure, the President assured citizens that he would remain connected to the electorate, declaring, However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians, even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas.
Framing the campaign council’s inauguration as a solemn commitment to the nation, Tinubu emphasized, We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant. A covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party.
Expressing absolute confidence in the team’s ability to communicate the administration’s scorecard to voters nationwide, he added, This council will carry our vision, our records and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to victory every ward of this country.
Reflecting on the successful execution of recent party congresses despite widespread predictions of internal friction, the President commended party leaders, remarking, They said there will be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You didn’t let us down. We got here together.
Tinubu challenged council members to take full ownership of electoral outcomes within their respective domains, insisting, No one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. So, until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you.
Reaffirming the ruling party’s dedication to its political mandate, he concluded, The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council; we have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down.
Encouraging party faithful to prepare for the upcoming electoral struggle, the President closed by affirming, I celebrate you. I celebrate you, no doubt about that. Nigeria will continue to celebrate you. You will see the joy of this victory. You will share in the joy.
