The Nigerian Naira opened trading for the week on Monday, October 19, 2026, maintaining relative stability across both the official foreign exchange window and the parallel (black) market.
Data from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed the local currency trading at official rates, while Bureau De Change (BDC) operators across major commercial hubs like Lagos, Abuja, and Kano recorded varied retail rates for major foreign currencies.
US Dollar (USD) Exchange Rate
At the official NFEM window, the US Dollar opened trading at approximately ₦1,333.54 per dollar, reflecting slight movement from the ₦1,332.26 recorded at the close of last week’s session.
In the parallel (black) market, BDC operators are buying the US Dollar at ₦1,375 and selling at ₦1,390 per dollar.
British Pound (GBP) Exchange Rate
The British Pound traded at an official CBN rate of ₦1,765.11 per pound.
In the parallel market, street traders buy the Pound at ₦1,850 and sell to retail buyers at ₦1,880 per pound.
European Euro (EUR) Exchange Rate
The Euro opened with an official CBN reference rate of ₦1,491.20 per euro.
Across the parallel market, BDC operators are purchasing the European single currency at ₦1,550 and selling at ₦1,590 per euro.
Financial market analysts note that foreign exchange liquidity levels, Diaspora remittances, and ongoing regulatory interventions by the CBN continue to influence daily rate adjustments across the domestic currency market.
